Edumacation

It’s been almost two weeks since I’ve made an entry, my apologies. I don’t have any excuses, just haven’t taken the time.

This week and last week I’ve been in training for a network system we use at work. The training is great, our instructor’s knowledgeable and funny, and they treat us well- the only thing that bothers me is that I’ll be lucky to apply maybe 5% of this newfound knowledge at work. This network system (net IDNX/) has 6 levels of access, with level 6 allowing ultimate control over every function possible. On our major node at work we have level 1 access, which means I’m basically allowed to look at it and pray to the network gods that everything works fine. Now, thanks to this class, I know HUNDREDS of things I could do to help our network, but never will. Can you sense my frustration? On the flip side, I shouldn’t complain. More knowledge is more knowledge, and that’s worth plenty in itself.

The class has been nice for other reasons as well, since I’m taking off from night shifts to attend. I get up in the morning like regular people, and occasionally I go to bed at night; it’s nice to see daylight for a change.
